The story unfolds in 1950s Baltimore where a group of disenchanted twenty-somethings spend their days in a local diner, talking away their problems. Eddie (Steve Guttenberg) is reluctant to marry his fiancé, Shrevie (Daniel Stern) prefers to spend time with his friends rather than his wife Beth (Ellen Barkin), Billy (Tim Daly) has a pregnant girlfriend who won't marry him, Fenwick (Kevin Bacon) is smart but always drunk, and Boogie (Mickey Rourke) is an anarchic hairdresser with an eye for the ladies.
