The Maid

A nice surprise from Thailand that deserves attention. Story-wise, the film follows the classic template, where a young girl takes a job as a nanny in a wealthy family where the ghost of the previous nanny haunts the house. The jump-scares don't work very well, and the make-up of the ghost is pretty average, but fortunately, in the last half hour the film shifts from a ghost story to a pretty bloody slasher that beats the previous not very interesting hour in several ways. The execution is fine and the actors don't offend either, but I'm a bit disappointed that I can't raise the rating because I was more bored than entertained for the first half, and if the hall scene had been five minutes longer, I would have paid gold without hesitation. After a few introductory scares, I thought I'd be bored as hell watching another shallow nonsense for the younger generation. But then the Thai filmmakers began to unfold a story that I started enjoying more and more over time. When it came to the raincoat, I forgot about all my negative thoughts. After the end of the film, I had to admit that I had actually enjoyed it, so it would be mean of me to give it a low rating. (11/01/2021)
